  • Frozen Mango—You can find bags of diced frozen mango in the freezer section of most grocery stores.
  • Whole Milk—For the creamiest result, use whole milk.  If you prefer a little thinner lassi then you can use 2 percent milk.  For a dairy-free option, try using your favorite plant based milk like almond or coconut milk.  
  • Greek Yogurt—The yogurt makes the texture of this drink so creamy and smooth. For a dairy free option, substitute greek yogurt for coconut yogurt or another plant-based plain or vanilla yogurt.
  • Vanilla Extract—A little drop goes a long way
  • Granulated Sugar—This drink is known for its sweet flavor, so the sugar helps the lassi live up to its name. For a refined sugar-free option, try using honey, agave, or maple syrup.

Don’t worry if this was your first question when you saw the title of this new recipe, you are definitely not the only one! A lassi is a traditional yogurt-based beverage from the Punjabi area in India.  It’s made by mixing yogurt with water or milk, fruit, and sometimes spices.

Can I use fresh mango instead of frozen?

Absolutely! It is important to note that if you are using fresh mangos then your drink will not get as thick as when using frozen mangos. You can either throw them in the freezer for about 2 hours, or go ahead and use your freshly diced mango. Either way your lassi will taste amazing!

How can I thin out my lassi?

One of the best things about this recipe is how easy it is to customize. If you like your smoothie on the runny side then you can add a splash of extra milk. I recommend starting with an extra 3-4 tablespoons and then going up from there as needed. Likewise, you can thicken your lassi if you want to use it for a smoothie bowl by adding extra frozen mango ½ cup at a time.

What spices can I add to my drink?

Adding some warm spices is a great way to add extra flavor to this drink and compliment the sweetness of the mango. Try adding a teaspoon of cinnamon, cloves, or nutmeg. You can also sprinkle some cinnamon on top of your drink.

  • This delicious drink doesn’t save or store well, unfortunately, so we recommend only preparing what you are going to drink. 
  • If you don’t have plain Greek yogurt or vanilla extract, you can replace the yogurt and vanilla with ¾ cup of vanilla flavored Greek yogurt. You can also use regular yogurt in a pinch.
  • Starting on a low blender speed and working up to a high speed will help ensure the ingredients are fully combined and you don’t end up with clumps of frozen mango in your drink.  
  • Diced mangos can be found in the freezer section of most grocery stores.
  • There is no need to thaw your frozen mangos before throwing them in the blender. They will help thicken the lassi when frozen.

Instructions 

  • Throw all of your ingredients into a blender.
  • Pulse the blender for about one minute, or until the lassi is smooth and creamy. Start the blender on a low speed and work up to a high speed as the ingredients combine. If your blender has a smoothie button then you can use that as well.
