I have planned on sharing this “recipe” for our all-time favorite Halloween snack with you for years and years. Every year I think that this will be the year that I get a few pictures and share with you, and this is the year that I finally did it!

They are so fun and easy that you’ll be making them over and over again because all they require of you is a trip to the grocery store. I have been making these spiders for decades! We love to make these for our “BOO!” plate (where we doorbell ditch our neighbors and friends – get the cute poem to go with the goodies here), and they are so nostalgic for me that I know I’ll be making them for years to come. Quick, easy, and cute – that’s all there is to them.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • I love that this recipe can be made with the smallest of kids. Most little ones can stick something into the middle of the Oreo.
  • They aren’t messy at all, and they take no preparation on your part.
  • They’re so fun and festive!

Ingredients

  • Oreo Cookies
  • Black Shoestring Licorice
  • Tube of Store-Bought Icing
  • M&M candies

  • There are lots of options that you can use for the eyes, including other small, round candies and even candy eyes.

How to Make Easy Oreo Spider Halloween Snacks

Step #1. Cut the licorice into 2-2.5″ pieces.

Step #3. Please a small amount of icing on the top of the Oreo. Place two candies in the icing to form the eyes.

Step #2. Push four pieces of licorice into each side of the Oreo to make the spider’s legs.

Step #4. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.

Does the kind of Oreo matter?

Double Stuf Oreos work the best because there’s more filling to help keep the spider legs in.

How much licorice do I need to buy?

1 package of shoestring licorice is about enough for 2 dozen spiders. I normally get 2-3 packages so I don’t run out – my kids tend to snack a lot while making these and it’s really inexpensive.

Expert Tips

  • If you don’t have Double Stuf and you find the top is falling off of your normal Oreo when you add the legs, just use a little of the icing to glue the top of the cookie back on. Works like a charm.
  • You can find “shoestring” licorice at most well-stocked grocery stores or drug stores like Walgreens. It comes in red too, but I like black the most.
  • If you want to have enough to give away, you might need to buy extra Oreos. If your house is anything like mine, Oreos tend to disappear quickly!

Instructions

  • Cut the shoestring licorice into 2 to 2 1/2 inch pieces (scissors work great for this).
  • Push the cut licorice pieces into the Oreo filling, 4 on each side, to look like spider legs.
  • Place two small dots of icing at the top of the Oreo and then stick two M&M candies of the same color onto the icing to look like eyes (the icing is the glue to stick the candies on).
  • Repeat with remaining cookies and candies.

Notes

  • Double Stuf Oreos work the best because there’s more filling to help keep the spider legs in. If you don’t have Double Stuf and you find the top is falling off of your normal Oreo when you add the legs, just use a little of the icing to glue the top of the cookie back on. Works like a charm.
  • You could use cute candy eyes if you’d like in place of the M&M’s.
  • You can find “shoestring” licorice at most well-stocked grocery stores or drug stores like Walgreens. It comes in red too, but I like black the most.
