When you make your own sauce from scratch, you have complete control over the ingredients and flavors. You can customize the sauce to suit your taste preferences, adding more garlic, extra herbs, or a hint of spice. The result is a sauce bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors that will make your taste buds sing. Plus, it is super easy to do!
Easy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
Do you prefer a thick and chunky sauce or a smooth and velvety one? When you make it yourself, you have the power to control the consistency of your sauce. You can simmer it longer for a thicker texture or blend it to achieve a smoother finish. If your sauce gets too thick, simply add a little water to thin it out. It’s all up to you!
If you are vegetarian or just looking for a red sauce, you can omit the meat in this recipe and make a meatless sauce. I often make this sauce meatless and use it for a marinara sauce for pizza and calzones.

It is recommended to simmer the sauce for at least 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. However, you can simmer it for longer if you prefer a thicker and more concentrated sauce. Just be sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking or burning.
Absolutely! In fact, homemade spaghetti sauce often tastes even better the next day as the flavors have more time to develop. Once the sauce has cooled, you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. When you’re ready to serve, gently reheat it on the stovetop or in the microwave.
The choice of pasta is entirely up to you. Classic choices like spaghetti, linguine, or fettuccine work well. However, feel free to experiment with different shapes like penne, rigatoni, or even homemade gnocchi. Ultimately, it’s about finding the pasta shape that you enjoy most with your homemade sauce.
