Sink your teeth into these golden warm, cheesy Bosco sticks! These cheese filled sticks are coated in butter and spices for a flavorful snack or appetizer.
Bosco sticks present a fun, unique take on traditional breadsticks. After making these, you’ll wonder why you didn’t try them sooner! These cheese sticks are a perfect combination of delicious seasoned breadsticks, gooey mozzarella cheese, and savory marinara sauce. We like to use store bought pizza dough to cut down on the prep time this recipe takes, but you can use both homemade pizza dough as well.
One of our favorite things about this recipe is how easy it is to customize. The Italian seasonings give these mozzarella sticks a classic breadstick flavor; however, it can be substituted with a variety of spices to give your appetizer a different flavor. For a little more heat, try topping your Bosco sticks with red pepper flakes. You can also use freshly minced garlic to create a sharp and savory garlic butter.

Recipe FAQs
Think about your favorite soft golden breadstick lightly dusted with buttery seasoning, then imagine taking a bite and inside is delicious mozzarella cheese. Simple yet so tasty! It’s essentially a stuffed breadstick. The name Bosco comes from the name of a pizzeria in MIchigan that originally created the sticks. The pizzeria was named after St. John Bosco, the patron saint of children, jugglers, and magicians. But don’t be fooled, although Bosco Sticks are a huge hit with kids, adults love them too!
Absolutely either store bought or homemade dough work for this recipe. If you need convenience, store bought is the way to go. The recipe still tastes just as delicious if you use store bought. However, if you prefer the ingredients or price of your own homemade dough, that will work just as well!

How to Store Leftover Bosco Sticks
Store your leftover Bosco Sticks in an airtight container or Ziploc bag in the fridge for up to 5 days. When you are ready to reheat your leftovers, put 1-2 sticks at a time in the microwave for 30-45 seconds. You can cut into the center of your leftovers to make sure the cheese is warm and melted again.
Expert Tips
- These Bosco Sticks tend to spread a little bit as they bake, which is why you’ll want to just bake 4 at a time. This gives them plenty of space to expand as they cook.
- If you use homemade pizza dough, which works just as well, make sure to roll out your dough into a sheet about ¼ inch thick.
- The exact number of sticks you’ll end up with depends on how much do you use to wrap each mozzarella stick.
- An alternative topping is garlic butter. Simply stir together 2 tablespoons of melted butter and one clove of freshly minced garlic. You could also substitute a teaspoon of garlic powder instead of the fresh garlic.
