  • If you have fresh garlic, you can use two cloves of finely minced garlic rather than the garlic powder!

Recipe FAQs

Where did big mac sauce come from?

Big mac sauce was first invented in 1968 alongside the Big Mac burger. From then on, this sauce has become a popular fan favorite due to the creamy, tangy, and almost sweet nature of the sauce.

Is big mac sauce the same as thousand island dressing?

These two sauces have a few ingredients in common, but they also have some major differences. The biggest difference is that thousand island dressing usually contains ketchup, sour cream, and sugar whereas big mac sauce does not. This causes the difference in flavor, although they do share some key spices with each other!

Expert Tips

  • Make sure you whisk the ingredients fully to ensure that the spices and relish are thoroughly incorporated. You don’t want a powerful bite of relish or spices while the rest of the sauce is less seasoned!
  • Additionally, you can use a blender or hand mixer to ensure that the sauce is fully combined if you find whisking it together too difficult!
  • If you are looking for a higher protein option, try switching out the mayo for plain non-fat Greek yogurt!

You can spread it on grilled cheese or sandwiches, use it as a dip for easy baked chicken tenders or homemade sweet potato fries, or put a dollop on top of a baked potato! There are no limits, you can use this sauce for anything!

This sauce should be stored in the fridge if it is not being served immediately, or if you have any leftovers. You can store your sauce for up to a week in the fridge in a mason jar with a tight lid or Rubbermaid container. Your recipe calls for mayo but the pics show it to be Sour Cream….which is it?

The image was incorrect and was updated. Thank you for pointing that out! I appreciate that help. The sauce needs mayo, not sour cream.
