Sweet potato fries in an air fryer.

If you are ever craving a crispy and salty snack, these air fryer sweet potato fries are the perfect solution! They are extremely easy to make, all you have to do is put them in the air fryer and season them with whatever you’d like and you’ll be snacking in no time. Not only do these fries make a great snack, but you can serve them as a meal.

One of my favorite ways to serve them is with a hamburger, an easy pulled pork sandwich and fresh corn salad on the side! You will have a balanced meal that definitely does not lack in flavor. The best part is you can use one bag for multiple meals! Add as many fries as you are wanting to the air fryer basket, and then put the bag back in the freezer for another day.

      Recipe FAQs

Why won’t my fries get crispy?

Your fries might not be getting crispy if you forget to preheat the air fryer. Make sure to preheat the air fryer so it can start cooking the fries right away. Keep an eye on them because the cooking time might vary depending on what air fryer you own, and if they are not looking slightly brown on the edges then keep them in for another minute or two. If you want to ensure that the fries are extra crispy, you can toss them in about 1 ½ teaspoons of olive oil before cooking them in the air fryer basket.

What can I serve with sweet potato fries?

You can eat these sweet potato fries as a snack on their own with some dipping sauce like ketchup, ranch, or fry sauce. They also pair well with many different dishes. You can try adding these on the side to sloppy joes, chicken tenders, cheeseburgers, or chili. If you are wanting something a bit more unique, you can make these into loaded sweet potato fries by piling different toppings onto them. You could use sour cream, diced tomatoes, jalapenos, diced onions, avocado, or olives for toppings.

Can I use a fresh sweet potato to make fries?

Absolutely! I like to use a bag of pre-cut sweet potatoes to make it a bit easier for myself, but you could use a fresh sweet potato instead. Simply cut up your sweet potato into long strips that are about ¼- ½ inch in width. Place your sliced potatoes in a bowl filled with cold water and allow them to sit for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, pat the potatoes dry, season them with olive oil and salt, and throw them into the air fryer! You can cook them for the same amount of time and take them out when they are crispy.

How to Make Sweet Potato Fries in the Oven

You can definitely cook sweet potato fries without an air fryer! Here is how you can make these delicious, crispy fries in your oven instead.

      1. Preheat your oven to 450°F.
      2. Line a baking sheet with tin foil. Pour the sweet potato fries onto the sheet in a single layer and sprinkle them with salt.
      3. When the oven is preheated, place the fries into the oven.
      4. Cook your fries for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are crispy.
      5. Serve and enjoy!

How to Store Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

These sweet potato fries are best served fresh. With that being said, you can go ahead and store leftover fries in the fridge for up to 3 days. Store them in an airtight container lined with a paper towel to keep them fresh. It is important to note that once reheated, the fries will be a little softer and not as crispy. To reheat these fries, simply throw them into the air fryer at 350°F for about 5 minutes.

      Expert Tips

      • As you are adding the sweet potato fries into the air fryer basket, make sure that they are spread out and only a single layer without overlapping. This will help them to cook evenly and properly throughout!.
      • Also, It is a good idea to shake the basket about halfway through so that the fries will be crispy on all sides.
      • Other seasonings you can add to these fries include garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, oregano, or parsley for more flavor.
