I love a hearty hard boiled egg, but it can be tough to keep an eye on the stove as they boil, and remember how long they have been cooking. That’s where the air fryer comes in! You can easily place your eggs in the air fryer, set the timer, and you’ll know when it’s time to put them in the cold water.

No more worrying, overcooking, or forgetting! You can cook as many as you want at a time. I always like to cook extra so I can peel them and keep them in the fridge for a quick snack or breakfast for the next few days. Add any seasonings such as salt and pepper, everything bagel seasoning, or chili powder for extra flavor and you’re all good to go!

Recipe FAQs

Is it safe to make eggs in the air fryer?

Yes! Using an air fryer to cook your eggs is perfectly safe. The hot air in the air fryer that is constantly circulating is what cooks the eggs. While it is not necessarily considered “boiling” since they are not submerged under water, the air fryer generates a similar effect. As long as you follow the safety guidelines, using the air fryer is a great tool to cook eggs.

Will the eggs explode in the air fryer?

You may have heard that cooking eggs in the air fryer will cause them to explode, but that is not actually true. The cooking temperature is low enough that they will cook without too much pressure, so as long as you are following cooking times and temperatures you will not have to worry about the eggs bursting. You might hear some cracking as they cook, but that is normal and not anything to worry about.

What is the easiest way to peel hard boiled eggs?

First, try to use older eggs that have been in your fridge for a while before using newer ones. Older eggs tend to be a little easier to peel. Next, cooling the eggs in the ice bath will make them easier to peel. My preferred method is by gently cracking the eggs on the counter and then rolling them in between your hands to loosen the shell. The small cracks will make it easier for the shell to come off without too much hassle.

How to Store Air Fryer Eggs

Store your air fryer eggs in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Either put them directly into the fridge after cooling, or peel them and place them into the container. You can eat them cold, or carefully heat them up in the microwave for 5-7 seconds at a time to avoid bursting. Add salt and pepper, and enjoy.

Expert Tips

  • Cooking these eggs will result in what is considered between a soft and hard boiled egg! For a soft boiled egg, you can cook them for 12 minutes. For a hard boiled egg, you can cook them for 18 minutes.
  • Be careful not to overcook your hard boiled eggs! Doing so will result in a greenish hued egg yolk.
  • I tend to peel all of the eggs at once to make it easier to store and grab one whenever I want from the fridge with no hassle.
  • Transferring the eggs to cold water will help stop the cooking process almost immediately and allow them to cool without continuing to cook.
  • Pair hard-boiled eggs with toast, smoothies or in a salad for a balanced and tasty meal.
