    Recipe FAQs

    Can I use fresh strawberries?

In this recipe, we will not be using ice to thicken the milkshake but instead rely on the frozen strawberries to help add a thicker texture. Because of this, you will want to make sure you are using frozen strawberries. If you only have fresh strawberries then you will want to cut off the stems and let them freeze before blending them.

How thick should my milkshake be?

It depends on how you like it! The milkshake should be thick enough for a spoon to stand in it yet thin enough to be able to drink. If you prefer a thicker milkshake, you can add an extra ½  cup of frozen strawberries. On the other hand if you want a thinner milkshake then you can add an extra ¼ cup of milk until you get your desired consistency.

    Can I store strawberry milkshakes?

Unfortunately, these milkshakes cannot be stored because they develop an odd texture when frozen and reblended. Luckily it only takes 10 minutes to whip up these milkshakes, which means if you have extra ingredients you can have this delicious dessert multiple nights in a row!

Strawberry milkshakes are the most tasty treat on their own, but you can also add other ingredients to switch up the flavor! Here are some of our favorite ways to mix up this recipe.

    • Want to make this milkshake vegan? No problem! You can make this recipe using dairy free ice cream and any type of nut milk. You won’t even notice a difference.
    • If you want to make this milkshake even more rich and delicious, you can either use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla, or add chocolate syrup to the blender before mixing!
    • Add some extra fruit to make this milkshake taste like a tropical paradise! You can use frozen bananas, pineapple, or mango for a fruity flavor.
    • For extra nutrients and flavor, try adding a scoop of protein powder to your milkshake! You can use vanilla or strawberry flavored.

    How to Serve Strawberry Milkshakes

This recipe will make about 4 cups of milkshake, so you can divide it into as many servings as you’d like. You can serve this dessert to a large crowd at a big gathering or just on a normal weeknight for a sweet treat! Pour the milkshakes into small glasses and serve with a spoon or straw.

We always top our milkshakes off with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry, but you can also add chopped nuts or sprinkles for more decoration and flavor.

    Expert Tips

    • Allow your ice cream to sit out for a few minutes before using, but don’t let it become too soft otherwise the milkshake will be runny.
    • For extra flavor you can add ¼ cup of strawberry syrup to your milkshakes.
    • We use frozen whole strawberries, but slices will work as well! If you are using slices then you’ll only need about 2 cups.
    • If you don’t have a regular blender, you can use an immersion blender instead
