This blueberry smoothie only uses a few basic ingredients, but has an outstanding taste! The creamy Greek yogurt mixes perfectly with the blueberries to give you the ideal smoothie consistency. It can be hard to make a smoothie that has both flavor and a nice thickness to it, but this recipe gives you a great start.

You can make modifications or add more ingredients to take this smoothie to the next level. When I make this for my kids, I like to add a cup or two of fresh spinach because you can’t taste the difference, and it offers more nutrients which is always a good thing. Whether you make this for breakfast or as a snack, you can’t go wrong with a classic blueberry smoothie.

Smoothies make a great breakfast or midday snack. If you want to make smoothies part of a meal, consider serving them with an easy egg and potato bake. I have a lot of simple smoothie recipes that are on repeat around here. Strawberry smoothie with bananas is an all time favorite too.

Recipe FAQs

How can I make my smoothie thicker?

Most people try to thicken their smoothie with ice. This can work, but there are better alternatives so you don’t compromise the rich flavor of your smoothie! If you think the smoothie is too thin and you want it thicker, try first adding some more yogurt to make it creamier. You can also try adding more frozen fruit to thicken it up and add flavor, or any kind of nut butter will aid in the texture while adding some sweet nuttiness to the smoothie! Be sure to start with a small amount of any of these options so that it does not get too thick and then you are stuck in a cycle of trying to get a good consistency!

Is it better to use milk or water for a smoothie?

You can use either milk or water to make a smoothie! There are different reasons to use either. If you use water, the smoothie might have a less powerful flavor and be less creamy, but it does cut back on the calories and fat contained in the smoothie. If you use milk, there are more nutrients as well as calories, but you will have a creamier and richer smoothie. For this recipe, we highly recommend using some type of milk as it will provide a good flavor and consistency to the blueberry smoothie. Ultimately, it is up to you what you are looking for in your smoothie!

What are the benefits of blueberries?

Blueberries are often labeled as a superfood! They are full of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins that are great for your body such as fiber and vitamin C! They are low in calories and have many health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, promoting heart health, and aiding in exercise recovery! This smoothie is a great way to get a lot of nutrients at once.

Expert Tips

  • If you don’t have frozen blueberries, you can use fresh ones! Keep in mind that fresh blueberries will result in a thinner smoothie, but you can add more yogurt to help with the thickness!
  • We like to add vanilla extract to amplify the sweetness in this smoothie! You are welcome to omit it or use almond extract instead.
  • Start the blender on a low speed and work up to a higher speed to ensure all of the blueberries get blended well!
  • If you want to tone down the sweetness of these smoothies you can omit the sugar or use plain yogurt.
