Frequently Asked Questions
Allowing your steaks to rest in the air fryer basket actually allows them to finish the cooking process. You want your steak to hold onto as much juice as possible, allowing it to retain flavor. If you cut into your steak as soon as it comes out of the air fryer it will leak quite a bit of juice, which can cause your steak to taste a little on the bland side.
This is really up to you! There are numerous steak cuts that each have a unique flavor and texture. For anyone who is relatively new to steak, we always recommend a New York strip steak. For a fattier, juicier steak, try a ribeye. For a more tender cut of meat, try going with a flank steak. The price of steak can range widely depending on what cut you get, so that is another thing to keep an eye out for.
A good Montreal seasoning provides the perfect spice mix to please any eater. However, it is also very easy to customize. For a spicier steak, add a little extra cayenne chili powder or some red pepper flakes. To really up the flavor top the steak with this delicious chimichurri sauce!
Steak is such a versatile dish. You really can’t go wrong with your sides. For a heartier, well-balanced meal, serve your steak alongside a fresh garden salad. For a richer meal, try mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, or some homemade rolls. Other sides we enjoy pairing with our steak include air fryer vegetables, oven roasted asparagus, and corn on the cob.
How to Store Leftover Steak
We recommend serving this steak fresh; however you can store your leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat your steak in the microwave for about 2 minutes, or until your steak is hot in the middle. It is important to note that reheating your leftover steak can cause it to dry out, which will give it a more chewy texture. One of our favorite things to do with our leftover steak is shred it and use it for steak tacos!
Expert Tips and Tricks
- While we used New York strip steaks, you can use any cut of steak for this recipe. No matter what cut you use, the cook time will be about the same. You may need to add a few minutes to your cook time depending on the thickness of your steak, but 14 minutes is a great starting point for any cut.
- If you do not have fresh garlic, you can use 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
- Make sure your steak reaches an internal temperature of 145°F before serving it.
- You can make your own Montreal seasoning by combining equal parts salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, and coriander (if you have it).

Nutrition
Air fryer steak offers a convenient and efficient method to achieve a deliciously tender and flavorful dish, combining the benefits of reduced oil usage, even cooking, and a satisfyingly crispy texture. Plus, it is done in 30 minutes!
Question. If I were to do a filet minon or rib eye steak this way, would the time be shorter if I wanted it to be medium well done? ( That is pink in the middle.)
It’s going to depend a lot on the thickness of your steak! I think those would all be pretty similar and yes, if you want a medium well you’d need to reduce the time by about 2 minutes.
