Acai Bowls are colorful, filling, packed with nutrients and are reminiscent of a smoothie but served in a bowl and eaten with a spoon. These smoothie bowls make for a delicious breakfast, brunch or refreshing snack.

I love making acai bowls because they are super versatile, meaning you can use whatever fruit you have on hand and they still taste delicious. You can make these bowls in just a few minutes too!

Recipe Ingredients

  • Ripe banana: this adds great creaminess to the dish and helps to keep it nice and thick
  • Frozen mixed berries: these add to the color, sweetness, and thick texture of the dish. If you can’t have mixed berries you can use any single frozen berry you like or have on hand or a mix of those
  • Frozen acai puree: look for these with other frozen fruit in the freezer section of your grocery store, they’re pretty easy to find
  • Milk or juice of choice: this is the liquid that helps to get everything blended up
  • Assorted toppings such as granola, fresh fruit, coconut, nuts, seeds: the possibilities are endless here, we love the crunch of granola and almost always add some chia seeds and hemp hearts.

  • You can use whatever frozen or fresh berries you have or prefer
  • You don’t have to use milk! You can do almond milk, different juices, or even coconut water!
  • For some added protein, you can add yogurt (get my homemade instant pot yogurt recipe here) to your acai bowls.

How To Prepare An Acai Bowl

  1. Dump everything in the blender and go!
  2. To make these a little easier to make in a hurry- keep some frozen banana in the fridge! I always cut a medium banana into 6 slices and keep them in a freezer bag. So when I need a banana for a recipe, I know I need 6 slices!
  3. Top with anything and everything that you love.
  4. Eat right away and enjoy!

Expert Tips & Tricks

The thick texture us really important so that you can spoon it up like ice cream and aren’t trying to eat it like a soup. Using a high powered blender or a food processor will help with this and adding the least amount of liquid that you can while still giving it enough to blend up properly. It’s a bit a balancing game but you’ll figure out what is best in your kitchen after a trial or two.

How To Make A Homemade Acai Bowl

This quick Acai Bowl Recipe is full of acai berry puree, fruit, and your favorite toppings. Learn how easy it is to make your own Acai Bowl from the comfort of your home and at a fraction of the cost!

Ingredients 

  • 1 ripe banana sliced and frozen
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 200 grams 2 packages frozen acai puree
  • 1 cup milk or juice of choice
  • assorted toppings such as granola, fresh fruit, coconut, nuts, seeds

Instructions 

  • Prep the banana by peeling it, slicing it into 1/4 inch pieces, placing it on a plate or in a container lined with parchment paper and freezing for 20-30 minutes. I’ll often just keep frozen bananas in the freezer so that this step is done and I can make my acai bowls whenever I’m ready for them.
  •  When the banana is ready add the banana, frozen mixed berries, acai puree (break it into pieces to help it blend easier) and milk to the jar of a high powered blender or food processor.
  • Blend until smooth, stopping to stir as needed. If you need to add a little more liquid you can but it’s best to stop and stir instead of adding more liquid so that the acai bowls stay nice and thick in texture.
  • Divide the smoothie mixture between two bowls and top with your favorite toppings (we love granola, fresh fruit, nuts and seeds, etc.).
  • Enjoy right away.

Notes

  • You can add 1/2 cup of yogurt to the blender before mixing to make the bowls even thicker if you’d like
  • You can add a scoop of protein powder or collagen to the mixture before blending if you’d like
