Oven smores can be made anytime, regardless of the weather or location. They don’t require a campfire, fire pit, beach bonfires, or special equipment, making them accessible to everyone. I’m telling you, once you make oven-baked s’mores, you’ll have them more than twice a year camping!

You could even have them at the end of a delicious foil packet dinner, like grilled salmon or classic grilled hamburgers, to have a whole outdoorsy-style meal!

Recipe FAQs

When making oven s’mores should I line the baking sheet?

Yes. I like to line the baking sheet with parchment paper because it makes for a super clean s’mores experience.

What chocolate is best for s’mores?

If you are looking for a classic s’more, you will want to use milk chocolate. Mix it up and use white chocolate, dark chocolate, Nutella, or Reese’s peanut butter cups.

What is the best marshmallow to use for oven s’ mores?

I like to use jet-puffed regular marshmallows or marshmallows made specifically for s’mores. I’ve also heard success from using marshmallow creme.

Expert Tips

  • Help the Chocolate Melt: Place the chocolate in a single layer on the graham cracker and then the marshmallow on top of the chocolate. This helps the chocolate to melt more uniformly as the marshmallow toasts. Additionally, consider breaking the chocolate into smaller pieces for more even melting.
  • Watch Them Closely: Keep a close eye on the s’mores in the oven, as the marshmallows can go from perfectly toasted to burnt very quickly.
  • Test the Location: Rotate the baking sheet for even toasting, and adjust the oven rack position to find the sweet spot between too close and too far from the broiler.

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper (or even foil), this helps to make clean up a breeze.
  • Break your graham cracker in half and place it on the baking sheet. Place the marshmallow on one half and the chocolate on the other half.
  • Place the pan in the oven and bake for 2-4 minute or until the marshmallow is big and puffy and lightly brown.
  • Remove from the oven.
  • Place the chocolate graham cracker on top of the marshmallow (chocolate and marshmallow facing each other) and enjoy!

Notes

  • I normally make these when my kids have friends over to play and just make as many as will fit on my pan. Feel free to scale this recipe up to accommodate more servings.
  • I played around with broiling the marshmallows for just a few seconds to get a little more color on them. Feel free to do that at the end if you’d like. I found, though, that they went from golden to charred so fast that I didn’t feel like it was worth doing.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment with the types of chocolate or candy you use. Milk chocolate bars are a classic to start with, but you might discover a new favorite!
  • While you could store leftovers in an airtight container if you have some, they are best enjoyed immediately while everything is still melty and warm.

The chocolate and marshmallow were great. Baking changed the consistency and taste of the crackers. At least I tried it.
