  • Step #1. Pick a board – wooden cutting board, or a slab of marble or slate, even a cookie sheet will do. 
  • Step #2. Pick your hummus. Sabra is a great brand with tons of flavors. I’ve never met a Sabra hummus I didn’t like, so feel free to try ones that sound good to you.
  • Step #3. Pick your staples. Veggies and a few crackers/pitas/pita chips are all you really need. Carrots, mini bell peppers, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, and mini tomatoes are always good choices. 
  • Step #4. Pick the extras. There are so many things you can add to your hummus board to make it unique. I like to add nuts (like Marcona almonds), olives, marinated cheese, fresh fruit (grapes or seasonal berries), and even dried fruit. 
  • Step #5. Assemble .Place the hummus containers first and anything in a bowl (such as olives and marinated cheese). Next, add your veggies, crackers, and larger pieces of fruit. Then fill in any gaps with the small things like dried fruit and nuts. 
  • Step #6. Garnish. You can add a few sprigs of fresh herbs if you’d like a garnish. It’s nothing fussy, but a few little finishing details really bring a hummus platter together

Yes. You could assemble a hummus platter a few hours ahead of time. However, I would recommend adding the crackers just before serving so they are fresh. If you also want to be able to transport it, use a rimmed baking sheet with a cover. 

How do I assemble a hummus platter? 

Don’t overthink this part. Place your hummus first and then add the veggies and crackers. This isn’t about perfection. This is casual, simple, and a little messy.

Instructions 

  • Place your hummus on your board first.
  • Add your vegetables and then crackers. Don't feel like they have to look perfect, just lay them out.
  • If you are adding anything extra like olives you might want to put them in a small bowl.
  • Fill in any open spaces with additional crackers, fruit, dried fruit, nuts.
  • Serve right away.

  • If you are adding anything extra like olives or pickles, put them in a small bowl so the juice doesn’t get on the other ingredients. 
  • Feel free to add meat and/or cheese if you want more protein on the platter (especially if you’re using it for a meal). 
  • Try adding some interesting things like fresh asparagus or fresh green beans (you can eat both raw and they are delicious dipped in hummus). 
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to three days if you include meat and up to five if you don’t. Be sure to remove the crackers and store them separately in an airtight container so they don’t get soggy.
