Recipe FAQs

Can I use any type of Reese’s to make this dessert?

I actually used Reese’s eggs and they were fabulous and very full of peanut butter. I think just about any type of Reese’s cup would work for this recipe!

How do I cut desserts that are too sticky?

Stick your dessert in the fridge before attempting to cut. I had to stick my bars in the fridge for an hour before cutting.

What is the best way to keep S’mores bars from sticking to the pan?

You should be good to go if you do this: Line an 9-inch square baking pan with foil (let the foil hang over all the edges so that you can use it to pull the bars out of the pan later) and grease the foil well.

What can I use as a substitute for graham crackers?

If you don’t have graham crackers, digestive biscuits, vanilla wafers, or other crisp cookies can work as a substitute.

Expert Tips

  •  Chill Before Cutting: For cleaner slices, allow the bars to cool completely and chill in the fridge before cutting. This helps to cut through the marshmallows and chocolate cleanly.
  • Get Creative with Add-ins: A small sprinkle of sea salt on top can enhance the flavors and balance the sweetness.
  • Use a serrated knife: This helps to cut through the marshmallows and chocolate cleanly.
  • Don’t Overbake: Keep a close eye on the bars while baking. Overbaking can dry out the crust and make the marshmallow layer too firm. Remove them from the oven when the edges are golden and the center is just set but still slightly soft.
  • Layer Evenly: When spreading the marshmallow fluff and Reese’s cups, try to distribute them evenly across the crust. This ensures every bite has the perfect balance of gooey marshmallow and creamy peanut butter.

How To Serve Reese’s S’mores Bars

Serve Reese’s Stuffed Peanut Butter S’more Bars warm with ice cream, a drizzle of hot fudge, and a dollop of whipped cream for a decadent treat.

They are also delicious on their own, enjoyed straight from the pan. For a party, cut them into bite-sized squares and serve on a dessert platter.

Storing Leftover S’mores Bars

To keep your Reese’s S’mores Bars fresh and delicious, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you prefer a firmer texture or need them to last longer, refrigerate them for up to a week.

For extended storage, you can freeze the bars for up to 2 months — wrap them individually in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe bag or container.

When ready to enjoy, thaw them at room temperature or briefly warm them in the microwave for that gooey, just-baked texture.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°. Line a 9-inch square baking pan with foil (let the foil hang over all the edges so that you can use it to pull the bars out of the pan later) and grease the foil well.
  • To make the dough, combine the butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat until light in color and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla and beat to combine. Add the flour and stir until well combined. Stir in the graham cracker crumbs.
  • Press 2/3 of the dough into the bottom of the baking dish. unwrap and place Reese’s Cups evenly over the dough, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the Reese’s (letting them fall into the cracks), and then carefully spread the whole container of marshmallow creme over the chocolate. Then gently press the remaining dough evenly over the marshmallow creme.
  • Bake for 25 minutes until the crust starts to turn golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cook for an hour in the pan. After an hour use the edges of the foil to remove the bars from the pan. Let the bars cool on a wire rack (in the foil) out of the pan until set (this will take a couple of hours).
  • To cut the bars use a sharp knife and clean it in between each cut. These are sticky! I had to stick my bars in the fridge for an hour before cutting.

Notes

  • Make sure your butter, egg, and peanut butter are at room temperature before mixing.
  • You can also line your baking dish with parchment paper, allowing the edges to hang over. This makes it easy to lift the bars out once they’ve cooled, ensuring clean cuts and less mess.
  • Spread a thin layer of peanut butter over the graham cracker base before adding the chocolate and marshmallows.
  • Try adding crushed pretzels for a salty crunch, mini marshmallows for extra gooeyness, or even a sprinkle of sea salt on top to elevate the flavor profile.
